Crushed stone, dense ores, recycled aggregates and screened fines: conveying bulk materials on an incline presents unique challenges. Material size, density, moisture content and particle shape all influence how effectively a conveyor belt can retain product and minimise rollback.
Smiley Monroe’s ROCKCLEAT™ range combines tried and tested cleat profiles with heavy-duty base belt constructions that are trusted by operators to provide reliable performance across quarrying, mining and aggregate processing applications. Whether you’re handling fine aggregates or large, abrasive rock, selecting the correct cleat profile and base belt is critical to maximising throughput and reducing spillage.

Handling the largest, heaviest and most abrasive materials in the process requires belt quality you can trust. Higher-profile cleat patterns such as C32 and C25 profiles provide enhanced material containment, minimising rollback on inclined conveyors and maintaining carrying capacity when handling oversized rock and quarry run material.
Secondary and tertiary conveyors operating at higher speeds and feeding multiple transfer points requires a balance between material retention, discharge efficiency and carrying capacity. Medium-profile cleat patterns such as C15 provide sufficient grip for inclined conveying while maximising throughput and supporting efficient material separation within screening operations.
Materials such as sand, gypsum powder, potash, and coal fines can be susceptible to material build-up. Lower-profile patterns provide improved traction to prevent rollback while allowing material to discharge cleanly at the head pulley. Factors such as particle size distribution, moisture content and dust generation should be considered when selecting the most appropriate profile.
Recycled aggregates and quarry by-products often present additional conveying challenges due to varying particle sizes, inconsistent feed characteristics and fluctuations in moisture content. Materials such as recycled aggregate, crushed concrete and screened construction and demolition waste may require greater material containment than conventional aggregates, particularly where conveyors operate at steeper inclines. In these applications, patterns offering increased cleat height and enhanced carrying capacity can help minimise spillage, improve material control and maintain productivity. Selection should consider the variability of the feed material, expected throughput rates and the level of containment required throughout the conveying process.
Cleat patterns depend on more than just the material being conveyed. Factors such as incline angle, particle size, material temperature, moisture content, belt speed and production requirements all influence belt performance.
