Smiley Monroe Plants a Greener Tomorrow

Celebrating World Environment Day with Action and Impact

Today, on World Environment Day (5th June), the Smiley Monroe team took meaningful climate action – rain and all!

Guided by the Green Giants, our passionate team of internal sustainability champions, we came together at our Giants of Belting HQ for a special tree planting event.

This initiative was born out of sustainability impact workshops, where our team voiced a strong desire to boost biodiversity and make space for nature. That feedback grew into today’s practical and positive step forward for nature, all rooted in our Giant Leap sustainability strategy and our 2030 commitments to people and the planet.

Why Fruit Trees?

We planted fruit trees for five great reasons:

1. Beautiful (and Tasty!) Blossoms – Their springtime flowers aren’t just a treat for us; they’re vital for pollinators like bees and butterflies.
2. Free, Local Food – Our orchard will grow into a shared, sustainable source of fresh produce—a true community benefit.
3. Climate Action – Trees absorb carbon and produce oxygen, acting as natural air purifiers and carbon sinks.
4. Restoring Nature – This supports life on land, enhancing soil quality and local ecosystems.
5. Well-being – Time outdoors among trees is proven to reduce stress and boost mood, and the smiles today said it all!

Despite the ever-reliable Northern Irish weather, spirits stayed high – this wasn’t just about planting trees, it was about planting hope, community, and resilience.

Looking Ahead

Cultivating our green spaces is a way for everyone at Smiley Monroe to enjoy and nurture nature. We’re looking forward to watching our orchard grow over the coming months. Thanks to all who braved the weather and helped bring this initiative to life. Here’s to more green days ahead!
